On this display, V is velocity, A is acceleration and AMag is the magnitude of the acceleration vector. Click on the Action button to advance time in 2 second steps along the red path of the particle. Each second is marked by a blank spot. With each advance of time the average acceleration between the old time and the new time is plotted. Since we are free to place vectors anyplace in our reference frame as long as we maintain the magnitude and direction, there is always a question where to put vectors in a display to convey the most information. In this case I have placed the acceleration vectors on the path at a point corresponding to the middle of the time interval over which acceleration was averaged. They are the shorter vectors, pointing inward from the curved path.
